A Hoot of a Time

SEMI-metropolitan greyhound racing at Geelong this evening is set to bring about a fine ending to a brilliant week of racing around the state.

Punters will not have to wait long to jump in, with the punting at Beckley Park kicking off in race number one of the evening.

Zoltina’s Prize is my pick of the field in the first. His blistering early speed will only benefit him over the short of 400 metres, and he is something of a sprint specialist. His commanding best of the night 22.08sec win at Ballarat over the 390 last week really stamped his credentials as a genuine chaser. Replay

Moving on to race six, I’m really keen on Cosmic Owl (pictured) from the three. Trained by Jeff Britton, he’s been racing consistently of late – which cumulated in an impressive 29.95sec triumph at The Meadows recently from box seven. Replay. He’ll face tough competition from Mechatronic – a veteran who has been equally as consistent, but I think Cosmic Owl has enough about him to get over the line.

Later in the evening, I’m going to back Danyo’s Slappy to get the job done. Knocka’s Choir and Tekki China both have claims, but Danyo’s Slappy has the talent and the pace to genuinely challenge. On top of that, he’s triumphed a remarkable 11 times from his 21 starts – including nine minor placings. Others will challenge, but I think he’ll cross the line first. He showed his class when winning at Sale in a blistering 24.58sec last month. Replay
