Barefoot Zulu withdrawn from Phoenix

Barefoot Zulu has been ruled out of the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup series and withdrawn from Sportsbet’s slot in The Phoenix.

It’s due to a toe ligament issue.

“It’s unfortunate however Barefoot Zulu’s health comes first and we hope he has a speedy recovery,” said Ben Holst, Senior Industry Partnerships Manager at Sportsbet.

Barefoot Zulu has recently been one of the sport’s hottest sprinters before a tame performance in the Shootout at Sandown Park last Friday.

It means Sportsbet are now on the hunt for another representative to aim for their third win in the country’s richest greyhound race, the $1.65M Phoenix.

“There are a number of high class dogs still available, we’ll be watching with great interest in the Melbourne Cup heats this Saturday night for a potential replacement.”

With Explicit retired and therefore withdrawn from the Awesome Lodge slot earlier this week, it leaves Steve Fitch trained duo Eriza Sparkles and Cumbria Jack as the only ones earmarked.

The Phoenix is on Saturday December 13 at The Meadows – see dreamchasersfestival.com.au for more information.

Barefoot Zulu (5) was runner-up to Colac Kid (3) in last Friday’s Shootout
