Date changes for May carnival

The 2022 RSN Sandown Cup will be run on Thursday May 19.

It has moved from its original date of May 26 to give participants the best chance of preparing their greyhounds for both the RSN Sandown Cup and New South Wales’ ‘The 715’.

“Having two major staying events run back-to-back isn’t ideal. This move creates a week between the Sandown Cup final and heats of The 715,” said Neil Brown, Chairman of Sandown Greyhounds.

Heats of the RSN Sandown Cup will be run on Thursday May 12.

The other change for the May carnival is that heats of the Harrison-Dawson (male greyhounds) and Sapphire Crown (female greyhounds) will be run on Friday May 13, changed from the original date of Thursday May 12.

“The club in conjunction with GRV thought it was a good opportunity to host two big nights of racing back-to-back. The ‘Best 32’ condition for the Harrison-Dawson and Sapphire Crown has been dropped with hope they’ll just about fill the card.”

Finals of the G1 RSN Sandown Cup (715m), G1 Harrison-Dawson (515m) and G1 Sapphire Crown (515m) will be held on Thursday May 19.

Details surrounding Speed Star have not been confirmed though it’s highly unlikely to run to its expected format and dates due to calendar constraints. The Club and GRV are working together to identify a window for the event.
