Up and coming sprinter Loxton Bale stole the show at Sandown Park on Sunday with the fastest Laurels heat win.
Her 29.29 victory over the unbeaten Devine Empress in Heat 5 showed exactly why Correy Grenfell is excited about his budding star.
Loxton Bale’s win gives the Grenfells two finalists for Thursday’s main event after Inka Bale beat a strong field to win at long odds in Heat 1.
The Grenfells were not the only kennel that had multiple Heat winners. It was a great day out for the Gibbons family who were delighted to see Valeska Bale and Gracie Bale take out Heat 3 and 4, respectively.
Caroline and Idolize both won their respective Heats while showcasing tremendous acceleration from tough draws.
Despite both finishing second, Devine Empress and Gypsy Toowoomba will advance to Thursday’s $50,000-to-the-winner final with the quickest runner-up times.
Gypsy Toowoomba, running for Andrea Dailly, will be looking to add a first G2 Laurels trophy to the stacked Dailly collection.
She will exit from Box 3 in next week’s final.
