Grassroots Regional Championships set to go

A total of $100,000 in prize money will form part of an exciting new series to be held throughout regional Victoria during September.

The Grassroots Regional Championships will be held across eight race clubs and comprise a ‘sprint’ and ‘distance’ component.

To be eligible, greyhounds must be out of maiden class, have had a minimum 10 starts and a rank of 275+ (Sprint) or 250+ (Distance).

The Sprint series – to be held over three weeks – begins on 5 September, while the Distance series – held over two weeks – starts on 16 September.

Two Grand Finals boasting $10,000 in prize money will take place at Ballarat on Wednesday 22 September.

“GRV is continually looking at ways to create greater earning opportunities for greyhounds at all levels, with the Grassroots Regional Championships to cater for greyhounds that would not normally compete for feature prize money,” said GRV’s General Manager Racing, Greg Kerr.

“It’s exciting to have eight different regional clubs involved in this inaugural series, and we look forward to will be a fantastic culmination with two Grand Finals at Ballarat.”
