Tauwitchere ready for 715

Tauwitchere made it five wins in a row at Sandown Park tonight and a step up to the 715m trip is on the cards.

Sent to the boxes an unbackable $1.04 favourite, she began well but was forced to work hard early with Come On Eleanor pouring on the early pressure. However the 2018 Launching Pad winner proved too strong in the concluding stages, powering to the line to win by 4.5 lengths in 33.23.

The win has continued her resurgence as one of the sport’s top staying prospects. Since stepping back up to the middle distance at The Meadows on the 4th of April, Tauwitchere has not been headed in any of her four starts and has won by a combined margin of 18 lengths.

“She’s going real good at the moment, she’s got that spark back again and is flying the lids,” said her very happy trainer, Steve White.

“About 10 starts ago she didn’t have it. She was hitting a flat spot but she’s turned it around after I gave them all 3-4 weeks off while that canine virus was going around. She’s come back and is going really good.”

The win was her third in as many starts over the distance since January, and while it wasn’t the fastest time she’s recorded, the manner of the victory gives White confidence as he plans to step her up in distance with the RSN Sandown Cup just a month away.

“I don’t think conditions were great (tonight) and we’ve had plenty of rain so I though the run was really good. I was a little bit worried early with the 3 was right on her hammer which I wasn’t really expecting, but as they came to the corner she took off and in the end she won by 4 and half so I’m happy.

“She gave the indication (that she’ll run a strong 715m) on her run at Sale last week – she ran it out pretty strong and her run home was good so I might back her up on Thursday night. We were actually going to put her in over 725m at The Meadows on Saturday night but we never got field, so the alternate was that since she was still a grade 4 here on a Sunday I thought I may as well put her in instead of trialling.

“If she can run it (the distance) we’ll have a go (at the Sandown Cup_ but she has to put time on the board too. If she can keep coming out the way she is it’s a head start because I don’t think she can come from behind and win them.”

Tauwitchere is currently rated an $18 chance to win the RSN Sandown Cup which will be run on Thursday 28 May.
