Daillys aiming for second Pad success

‘Team Dailly’ is hoping exciting youngster Dyna Patty can give them their second victory in the group 2 Launching Pad when she lines up in the final of the sweepstakes event tonight.

The daughter of Fernando Bale enters the $210,000 final the least experienced runner in the field being a veteran of just four career starts. But she has already turned heads by winning three of those starts, including last week’s semi final victory in which she defeated Tornado Tears by 3½ lengths in 29.51. She is rated a $4.20 chance by tab.com.au to claim the $150,000 first prize.

“She’s not coming out real flash, but she’s got a motor,” said  kennel representative Tom Dailly (pictured above with Dyna Patty after her Launching Pad heat win).

“From box three on Thursday she’s going to need to step a bit better. If she gets a clear run at them, she obviously can run but she’s going to need a bit of luck to get up there early. I’m hoping that the dog out of the yellow (Saint David) might run a bit wide like he’s done the last two weeks and give her a bit of room. She’ll need things to go her way, but she’s in there, she’s a chance.”

The Launching Pad is a sweepstakes open to greyhounds with 1-6 wins and no more than 30 starts, the series is one of the richest in the country carrying $410,000 in prize money over the three weeks. There are 64 places available in the heats, each requiring a $2000 entry fee.

Despite showing abundant ability in pretraining, Dailly revealed the decision to enter the series was made relatively late and largely the result of fortunate timing.

“She had a slight injury and she was out for a little while. When I was bringing her back somebody mentioned the Launching Pad and I thought it might be around at just about the right time.

“There was a maiden series just before it (Launching Pad nomination time) which suited her perfectly. She won the race so that she could get into the Launching Pad, and I thought I well I may as well put her in it. It just sort of fell into place.”

The Daillys famously won the first running of the Launching Pad as a sweepstakes event with Usain I’m Nutty in 2015. Owned by Tom’s son Jordan, Usain I’m Nutty finished with 12 wins in his career and over $215,000 in prize money and now lives the life of luxury at their Anakie property.

“He’s just mucking around at home. He just lives down the back of the property and he has a good time.”
