Houlahan’s first Sandown win in Judy Hayley heats

Little Big Shot’s win in today’s Judy Hayley Memorial heats may not have been the fastest but it was one of the most celebrated with trainer Kerry Houlahan picking up her first ever win at Sandown Park.

Little Big Shot began well to settle close to the leaders early. He made his race winning move off the back taking the lead entering the home straight. He went on to win by 1¼ lengths in 29.99.

“I’ve been placed here a couple of times but have never been able to pick up a win. I’ve been coming here for a few years, it’s nice to finally get one,” said Houlahan.

Little Big Shot’s win was in one of five heats of the lady trainer only series. Nike Viper was the fastest winner of the heats in 29.63 for trainer Lisa Hellmuth.

Lylah’s Way, Memphis Sky and Megallas Fairy were the other heat winners.

The Judy Hayley Memorial final is set for this Thursday night and will be the feature race of the club’s signature Frock ‘N Roll Ladies Night. This year it will be supporting Ovarian Cancer Australia and Safe Steps (Family Violence Response Centre).
