Judd sure to be a first round pick at Greyhound Adoption Day

Judd is one of 40 greyhounds who will make the trip to Bendigo for Greyhound Adoption Day on Sunday 25 February.

With a name like Judd, and the racing name Colden Blue Boy, this dog has clearly been named after one of the Carlton Football Club’s favourite champions. Judd is a gentle greyhound, suitable for many lifestyles, happy with or without a canine buddy, and with his beautiful blue-grey colouring he is sure to be a first round pick on the day.

Adoption day will be held at the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association, Lords Raceway, Junortoun, from 11am – 1pm. We are taking registrations for the day now. To find out more and to register visit our GAP website: gap.grv.org.au/events/greyhound-adoption-day/

This is only the second time that GAP has brought its travelling adoption day to Bendigo. Last year 24 dogs found new homes and organisers believe they will easily top that mark this month.

Our knowledgeable staff and volunteers will be on hand to provide information about the breed and each individual dog.

GAP’s Adoption Manager Larissa Darragh said greyhounds are terrific pets because they are friendly, loyal, docile dogs.

“Contrary to some assumptions, they don’t need a lot of exercise,” Ms Darragh said. “They need a 15 minute walk a day, which is average for a pet dog. They really are couch potatoes, they are happy to sleep most of the day,” she said.

“Some of the greyhounds are former racing greyhounds while others never made it to the track. All are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and they come with a lead, collar and coat. They also go through a detailed assessment to check their temperament and suitability for re-homing before they  can graduate to wear the green GAP collar.”

GAP takes greyhounds on the road to regional and metropolitan areas for adoption days about every two months, but visitors are welcome to come to our kennels at Seymour and Baxter to adopt or find out more about the breed.
