The GAP trailers have been packed away after today’s successful greyhound adoption day in Geelong.
The Greyhound Adoption Program’s final adoption day for the year saw all 32 greyhounds go to new homes.
Gavin Goble, Greyhound Racing Victoria’s (GRV) General Manager, Animal Welfare, and GAP’s manager Larissa Darragh, were thrilled with the results.
“This is another successful adoption day and it tops off a fantastic year,” Mr Goble said.
“I would like to thank everyone who adopted a greyhound as well as GAP and GRV staff, volunteers and our foster carers. It is a tremendous result,” he said.
“Larissa, the whole team and I appreciate all of the work that is done to find new homes for greyhounds.”
Despite the rain, the day attracted a crowd of 342 people to the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club.
People from Melbourne and further afield joined locals at the club. One family travelled from Wodonga to take home Elvis. Carly and Damien Batty and their three year old daughter Eva did their homework beforehand, looking at the GAP website and Facebook to sort through the available greyhounds. They had their eye on Elvis.
As Eva explains, their other greyhound Rosie “is lonely. She needs a friend”.
Rosie currently has the run of their home and spends a lot of time on the second-hand couch that Carly bought for her.
Rosie might now have to shuffle over and make way for Elvis.
