Undercover Pooch

All wrapped up in his pajamas, Rocky was one of 208 dogs to attend the Greyhound Community Day at The Meadows on Sunday, which saw 661 people brave the chilly weather conditions to meet in name of the greyhound breed.

On face value Rocky (pictured with David Plant and his seven-year-old son Aidan) was no different to the countless other greyhounds on the day, he enjoyed sniffing around The Meadows track, gazing at the stalls for new outfits to wear and sniffing out all of the yummy treats but stopping for a photo on the winning dias at The Meadows was a highlight.

Little did everyone know Rocky is a current racing greyhound.

Athletically know as Karaoke Ken, Rocky enjoyed the social outing ahead of the his 80th start this afternoon at Geelong, making friends with every breed that sniffed his way.

“He is fine with little dogs because he lives with a terrier at home and he is very much a pet,” Owner and trainer David Plant explained.

Plant bought his seven-year-old son Aidan for the kid’s activities but it was difficult to tell who was having a better time – Rocky or Aidan.

“Rocky spends most of his time training here at The Meadows so why not bring him for the Greyhound Community Day? Just because he races doesn’t mean that he can’t enjoy a day like this,” Plant said.

Plant, admitted that Rocky is more like a pet, sleeping on his bed and living with a terrier.

“Rocky comes everywhere we go – the only thing that concerns Rocky is the loud noises, so today has been a great experience for him.”

“It has been great to see so many people turn up to the Greyhound Community Day, I really enjoy seeing everyone celebrate the greyhound breed.”

Although Plant has only been training greyhounds for three months he is thankful for the knowledge Rocky has provided him.

“Rocky has taught me so much in such a short amount of time, I have always had a love of racing but now it is a passion.”
