VIDEO: Geelong Cup Heats 5 – 8; Like father like son

Anakie trainer Jeff Britton is one of Victoria’s top greyhound trainer’s but the heights he has reached in his 24 years in the sport, Jeff is aspiring to do something his father, a Victorian Greyhound Racing Hall Of Fame inductee, Allan Britton (pictured with Bear Creek in 2002 after winning the Geelong Cup) has done not once but twice, win a Geelong Gold Cup.

On Friday night at Beckley Park the lights will turn on with an extra special spark for the running of the 2016 Group Two $67,000 Geelong Gold Cup and Jeff Britton will have another chance to be apart of Geelong Cup history with outsider Alpha Hermes jumping from box two.

Last week  Alpha Hermes was given little to no chance by punters to win his Geelong Cup heat paying a staggering $30.60 for the win.

“I was really surprised with his win because didn’t trial as fast as the five others did the week before,” trainer Jeff Britton explained.

“He will definitely be a lot better for the run in the Geelong Cup after having a month spell in the lead up to the Cup.”

Jeff believes the Gold Cup could be taken home by any of the eight greyhounds in the field, but made special mention to Sleek Master following an outstanding performance last week.

“Being such an even field Alpha Hermes really has to begin to put himself in the race because he is a very fast dog but his biggest downfall is that he uses a lot of the track and therefore can loose a bit of ground.”
