Northern Districts Cup Preview: Disco at Shepparton

Feature Racing this Sunday night heads to the North East and to Shepparton where we have a cracking final of the $35,500 Group Listed Northern Districts Cup (450m), created in honour of the Wangaratta Cup, scheduled to run at 8:04pm.
.
A terrific field has been assembled for the race and I really like the chances of Disco Rain (1), who has come back from a spell in fine order winning all three starts and he was the fastest heat winner. A winner of eight from 11 he has the perfect box to show his terrific early speed and lead and from there he should be very hard to beat. Disco Rain is part-owned by AFL stars Michael Hurley and Stewart Crameri.
.
For mine his danger comes from the Auld kennel, which has two greyhounds engaged and they both have excellent chances but will need some luck. All Courage (5) for Tanya Auld was a slow beginner in his heat and couldn’t get into it but finished it off powerfully behind To The Galo’s. He will need a lot of luck from Box 5 as he isn’t a fast beginner but he has the class to feature.

Soda Lad (8) for Jimmy Auld should appreciate drawing out in Box 8. He didn’t get much luck early in his heat when placing behind Disco Rain but from the outside he will get clear air and should be right in the mix.
.
The other winning hope is Bendigo Ready 2 Race graduate To The Galo’s (3), pictured above with trainer Phil Smith. He sizzled early in his heat when winning easily. His hopes depend on whether he can cross Disco Rain early because if he can’t I find it hard to see him winning. All in all it looks a ripping race, as you would expect with $25,000 to the winner, but I think Disco Rain is elite and think he will win.
.
Other good chances on Sunday night include Redfern (1) in Race 3, who looks well drawn. It’s a good quality race but if he can hold a place early he certainly can run a drum at good odds. He is marked at $16 by the Watchdog.
.
Light Em Up (4) in Race 7, out of the powerful Jason Thompson kennel, was a devastating winner at Warragul last start and he has a PB at Shepparton of 25.27. There isn’t any speed drawn outside him so he should get clear running and have every chance.
.
In Race 10 I really like the chances of Peter Dapiran training the quinella with Zipping Chubbz (7) and Zipping Meg (8), who are both dropping in grade considerably they will get clear running early and in a race devoid on early speed. They should settle in the first half of the field and from there I think they will run 1-2.
.
It looks a high quality night of racing and I hope this helps you find a winner or 2. Good Luck and Good Punting.
