Alpha First

FRIDAY night racing at Geelong never fails to provide a spark to the end of the week and tonight will be no different – with yet another strong card on show.

The Stephen Bruce trained Mazzetti (race two, box two) is my pick of the maiden greyhounds for the evening. His consistency is only to be admired – as he has eight placings from his eleven starts, and he was unlucky not to salute at Warrnambool a fortnight ago, running a slick 25.54sec placing over the 450 metres. Replay At the very least, he is a must have each way bet.

Moving onto the feature heats of the evening, I’m really keen on Alpha Zeus from the three in race six. He’s been consistently breaking the 30 second barrier at Sandown Park of late, including a 29.70sec win at Sandown Park in March Replay. This is enough to convince me he’ll have the speed to salute here tonight. Drawn next to fierce competition in Get Up Dinozzo (4), early speed will be everything – if he breaks out to lead early on, I can’t see anything chasing him down.

Jubilea Bale (race 11, box 1) was unlucky at Horsham on Tuesday (copping five checks from the field) and finds herself suitably drawn from the inside tonight. Her class is unquestionable – highlighted by her recent second at Sandown Park. Replay With the assistance of the inside draw, she should find the luck she needs to avoid trouble – and her blistering box speed will only help her on her way.
