Time to Excel

Nick Ansell previews greyhound racing at Ballarat tonight…

A fine night of greyhound racing at Ballarat is set to offer punters plenty of great choices, following an excellent week of racing around the state – including the first round of heats for the $75000 Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Classic.

Back to Ballarat, the punting kicks off in race four with a field packed with quality – but I really like the look of Get Up Dinozzo from the outside draw of box seven. Jonny Quick Step has more than vindicated his name with recent wins at Healesville and Geelong, but I can’t look past Dinozzo from the seven.

His recent victories at both Bendigo (a best of the night run) and Geelong in 25.74sec (Replay) were commanding to say the least – and he’s done enough to convince me that he has the quality to salute here.

Moving on to race five, the Kellie Bravo trained Kayda Shae is one of the bets of the week. His classy and blistering 29.30sec triumph at Sandown Park demonstrated just how talented he really is. Replay

He has consistently smashed the 30 second barrier at Sandown in his past four starts, contesting with checks from the field at times, and I think he’ll be too classy.

The feature race of the evening, the R & J Batteries Final will see the ultra-classy Allkel To Excel challenge in a bid to back up his impressive 25.10sec victory in a heat here last week. He’s one of the fastest greyhounds running around the state at the moment, and I can’t see him giving this away easily. Awesome Cove is a genuine danger from the inside though, and he was more than notable with his heat victory last week. Tough field, but Allkel to Excel should get the job done here.
