Big Night for Geelong Indeed

As heats of the SITA Geelong Cup were run on Friday night, some of the town’s premier trainers were in South Australia for the Group 1 Adelaide Cup final, won by Andrea Dailly’s Allen Deed.

The first five placegetters in the Adelaide Cup, in fact, are trained in the Geelong region, as the Kelly Bravo-trained Blurred Lines was runner-up, while Jeff Britton’s kennel filled third, fourth and fifth places with Oakvale Destiny, Texas Titan and Cosmic Wise respectively.

Allen Deed (Jarvis Bale – Greta Bale), pictured above, collected a $75,000 first prize and which bumped his career earnings up to $187,000 in 41 starts which has produced 18 wins and another 11 placings.

Back at Geelong and a complete domination by big name trainers in the first six heats was miffed late in the piece when Reservoir’s Peter Akathiotis and Gippsland’s Gerry Kleeven came to the party.

Akathiotis’ greyhound Nockabout Aussie won heat seven in the third quickest time of the night, while Kleeven’s young star Luca Neveelk set the time standard in the final heat when running 25.467sec.

Earlier, Darren McDonald trained the first three heat winners, continuing his incredible run over the past 12 month since a serious health scare.

Friday night’s $64,000 final includes a first prize of $45,000.
