Fanta Bale wins Sydney Cup, closes in on $1 million

Victorian champion Fanta Bale is just one feature race win away from becoming Australian greyhound racing’s third million-dollar prize money earner after adding the $25,000 to-the-winner Group 3 Sydney Cup to her CV on Saturday night.

Fanta Bale’s latest win, a commanding all-the-way Wentworth Park victory as a $1.35 favourite, stretched her winning streak to six and took her career earnings up to $964,835. She is set to line up in her 50th start in the Group 2 Topgun Stayers (725m) at The Meadows on 28 October, where the $75,000 first prize would see her join Fernando Bale and Dyna Double One as the only greyhounds in Australia with $1 million prize money to their names.

A nine-time Group 1 winner including six at Group 1 level, Fanta Bale (David Bale – Ucme Typhoon) was bred by Paul Wheeler and is trained by Robert Britton. She is the only greyhound to win at Group 1 level in sprint, middle distance and staying events.

A huge crowd is expected at The Meadows in Melbourne on Topgun night to watch Fanta Bale aim to achieve the rare feat.
