Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Ready 2 Race Sales will take on an exciting new format in 2016, with the event to occur across three days instead of two, as was the case previously.
For the first time, the auction will be held on a day completely separate to the racing, and will also incorporate a night-time auction for the 50 fastest performers in the heats.
A record 270 nominations have been received for the 2016 Ready 2 Race Sales, which will again be held at Bendigo’s Lords Raceway. The conditions of entry state that nominations may be capped at 130 with the youngest unraced greyhounds to be given selection preference.
With the unprecedented interest in this year’s event, if the nomination cap was applied, 140 greyhounds would not be included in the Sale.
To overcome this problem the structure has been amended to accommodate all greyhounds.
All greyhounds will now be required to compete in heats on Saturday, 19 November and finals on Thursday, 24 November. Both the Heat and Final days will be split into a morning session and afternoon session due to limited kennel space. Trainers with multiple nominations will be graded into the same session wherever possible.
The auction will be conducted on Saturday, 26 November with no racing to be held on this date. The auction will be split into a day and night session. The greyhounds which record the top 50 times in the heats will be auctioned in the night session with the remaining greyhounds auctioned in the day session.
