PREVIEW: Beckenbauer a wild card

Although Matt Jackson hasn’t picked Beckenbauer in his selections of Warragul’s Winter Cup (460m) tonight, trainer Tammy Collins believes her veteran chaser is a wild card.

Competing in his 95th career start, Beckenauer is heading into the Winter Cup paying $11.30 on the TAB despite jumping from box 4.

“I used to think he was better drawn on the inside but as he aged he has matured and I believe he is a lot more versatile,” trainer Tammy Collins explained.

Beckenbauer finished third behind Bruiser Senor to qualify for the $8,940 Warragul feature last week jumping from box 8.

“Having more than $8,000 on offer at a country track defiantly provides intensive to travel, I think it is great,”

Fever Pitch (box 1) was exceptional in his heat win running a sizzling time of 25.74sec from the inside draw and receives box 1 again. I don’t think he is entirely suited drawn in box 1 but the way he dominated in his heat suggests he is at the top of his game. He is the class runner in the field.

His main danger for mine is Bruiser Senor (box 8). He can fly early and he is drawn perfectly to carve across to the rail. He went particularly good in his heat win and I believe if he can begin he has the ability to cause an upset.

Paua To Roar (box 7) flew early when winning his heat but faces a tougher task here. However he has drawn well again and if he mangers to cross and lead convincingly he will take plenty of running down.

Outside of the favourite it does seem a pretty open race; those with winning chances include Bella Rico (box 2) and Lion Rebel (box 3), both facing their toughest tests.
