GOLDEN EASTER EGG: Fishing up North for Golden Riches

Sydney greyhound racing’s Easter Carnival continues tonight with four semi-finals of the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg (520m) and three heats of the Group 1 Association Cup (720m).

Lara’s Darren Fisher (pictured) has two of the 22 Victorian-trained greyhounds making the 20 hour round trip to Wentworth Park.

With a combined total of $446,000 in prize money on offer in the next week’s finals of these two Group 1 events, Fisher’s decision to take his two talented chasers to Sydney was an easy one.

Chrichton Bale jumps from box three in the opening race, a heat of the Association Cup.

Last week Chrichton Bale had his first start at Wentworth Park in preparation for the series, and he finished fourth from box 7, leading everywhere but the finish line.

“I am hoping he travels a bit better this week than he did last week, and can therefore find the line with a bit more strength,” Darren’s wife, GRVextra’s Simone Fisher explains.

Chrichton Bale has drawn one of the stronger heats of the Association Cup and he is up against recent Group 1 Superstayers (725m) winner Star Recall.

“Star Recall is definitely the dog to beat. Chrichton Bale has pace either side of him but I don’t think it’ll bother him too much as he runs home strongly. There’s a couple of handy local greyhounds in his heat as well so we’ll be happy if he can run a place.”

Gary Doogan is the Fisher’s representative in the Golden Easter Egg, in the fifth event on the card drawing box 1.

“He doesn’t have the pace of some of the other greyhounds in the race, but he’s drawn perfectly and he won’t leave the rail. I just hope he gets a clean run because he’s an honest chaser. He’s got a little bit to find to run the times of a few of the others.”

Moreira should get a clear run from box 8 and Knight Sprite is coming off a Group 2 victory in Richmond, so they’ll both be hard to beat,” Simone said.

Last week Gary Doogan joined kennelmate Chrichton Bale at Wentworth Park, sticking to the rails from box 3 and finishing fourth in a heat of the Golden Easter Egg.

“The dogs have up gone up earlier this week so hopefully it will give them more time to settle in,” she added.

Fellow Victorian trainers Andrea Dailly, Jeff and Robert Britton, Jason Thompson, Angela Langton, Rodney Clark, Joe Borg, Mark Giddings and the newly claimed Victorian Anthony Azzopardi will also have greyhounds racing in these Group 1 events at Wentworth Park tonight.
