Twilight race meetings scheduled for Bendigo, Shepparton and Traralgon this week have been moved to different time slots due to predicted extreme hot weather conditions.
Under Greyhound Racing Victoria’s recently reviewed Hot Weather Policy, greyhound racing or trialling cannot be conducted if the temperature exceeds 38 degrees.
Wednesday’s Bendigo meeting will be moved from the twilight to the morning while Thursday’s meeting at Shepparton will be brought forward from a twilight meeting to a day meeting.
Thursday’s day meeting at Traralgon has been moved from the day to a twilight meeting.
The safety and welfare of greyhounds is of paramount concern for Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) in assessing whether a race meeting or individual races on a program should proceed, be delayed or abandoned in hot weather conditions.
Decisions to cancel meetings are made after careful consideration and consultation with the weather bureau and with the welfare of the greyhounds being paramount.
All GRV decisions to reschedule or cancel Victorian greyhound race meetings and trial sessions now also take into account the predicted temperature for travel times to and from the venue as well as at the track.
