Have your say on new Local Greyhound Rules

Victoria’s Local Greyhound Racing Rules are changing with new animal welfare and integrity-related amendments proposed by Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).

All greyhound racing participants are encouraged to have their say about the new amendments with the timeframe for submissions being extended until Friday 15 January 2016.

Lure approvals, live baiting penalties, greyhound euthanasia, regulation of greyhound training properties and participant registration are some of the issues covered by the proposed amendments.

The amendments also extend the powers of Stewards to cancel or suspend registrations, approve transfers of suspended and disqualified greyhounds and deal with suspended and disqualified persons and unbecoming and disreputable behaviour.

The proposed amendments and details on how to make a submission can be found at: www.grv.org.au/greyhound-racing-rulebook.

GRV CEO Alan Clayton said many of the new amendments were being introduced in direct response to recommendations in the Racing Integrity Commissioner and Chief Veterinary Officer Victoria reports on live baiting.

“GRV has already received comprehensive submissions on many of these issues but it’s very important that we have widest possible input to make sure these proposed changes will work for both the sport and in addressing community concerns,’ Mr Clayton said.

“So GRV has extended the closing date for submission until 15 January 2016 to give all greyhound racing participants a longer opportunity to have their say about the new rules.”
