Superstayers Invitational Wrap: Dzeko to Return

Dzeko (pictured) will be on the next available flight back to Angela Jackson’s kennel in Victoria after a successful three week stint racing in Brisbane which saw her snare the Group 1 Gold Cup (710m) and last Thursday’s Group Listed Superstayers Invitational (710m) at Albion Park.

The classy stayer took full advantage of the scratching of the favourite Sweet It Is to claim the Superstayers Invitational in the dying stages, with the race restricted to the four best credentialed stayers nominated making it a shoot out for stayers.

“She’ll be back in Melbourne on Monday and Angela will set for the National Distance Championship (in August),” said part-owner John Dart from northern NSW, who together with son Samuel has put the polish on Dzeko during her recent Brisbane campaign.

“She’s eligible to represent Victoria in the Nationals as that’s where she has done the majority of her racing this year, so there’s no point keeping her up here. We only brought her home because there were a few good races up here, but now she’ll stay in Victoria for the remainder of the career,” he said.

The Darts are based in the northern NSW town of Dulguigan, just a 90 minute drive from Brisbane.
