Sweet Six for Aussie Champ in NZ, Fernando Flies and Door Opens for Lady Toy

Aussie superstar Sweet It Is (pictured) scored her sixth win at Group 1 level on Sunday – this time in New Zealand – where she ran a track record 45.86sec in the Silver Collar Final (779m) at Auckland.

Australian greyhound racing’s highest ever prize money earner, Sweet It Is took her winnings up to $877,000 when claiming an $80,000 first prize.

The Braden Finn-trained greyhound’s visit to New Zealand, coupled with an injury to fellow champion Victorian stayer Space Star, may have presented Lady Toy with her best opportunity yet to win a Group 1 race yet.

However, the Victorian greyhound will have to improve on her heat run when scraping into the final by finishing fourth (Replay).

Trained by Brooke Ennis, Lady Toy has previously contested five Group 1 finals in her career, finishing 2nd on four occasions and fourth in another.

Victorian stars Fernando Bale (29.43sec) and Dyna Double One (29.56sec) were the fastest heat winners of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic at Sydney’s Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Fernando Bale notched his 11th straight win by a whopping 11 lengths (Replay), while Dyna Double One took full advantage of having a vacant box on his direct inside (Replay).

Four semi-finals of the Peter Mosman Classic will take place this Saturday night with the first two placegetters to contest the $75,000 to-the-winner final to be run on June 20.
