GRV to Trial New Kennelling Procedure

From 1 February, 2015 Greyhound Racing Victoria will trial new kennelling arrangements that will give trainers access to their greyhounds.

GRV has received many requests from industry participants – including the GOTBA – to provide a solution for greyhounds being kennelled for a lengthy duration on race day.

Currently the kennels open 75 minutes before the first race with a requirement that greyhounds for the entire meeting are kennelled 30 minutes before the first race. Whilst the kennels are all air conditioned there is no access afforded to trainers/handlers once kennelled.

Trainers/Handlers are required to get their greyhounds out to prepare for their race 20 minutes prior to their race start time.

GRV convened a panel consisting of its; Racing Manager, Chief Steward and Industry Veterinary Officer to consider possible solutions that would alleviate lengthy kennelling periods.

After consultation with the GOTBA the following variation to kennelling will be trialled for a three (3) month period at selected clubs before being reviewed after such point a more permanent solution may be considered.

Tracks that are participating in this trial are Geelong and Sandown Park.

During this trial GRV welcomes feedback from participants either on the phone number below or via email.

OPERATIONAL OUTLINE:

2.    Trainers/Handlers of greyhounds in Races 9-12 are afforded the opportunity to have a 5-minute release from their kennels to be emptied and a small drink of water
