Spud Regis Part of Britton’s Surprise Assault on Mount Gambier

Dual Group 1 winner Spud Regis will have his first run for new trainer Robert Britton at Mount Gambier on Sunday.

Britton, who is one of Victoria’s leading trainers, has a team of 10 greyhounds engaged at the meeting, with other big names including Born Ali, Lucy Wires and Iona Seven.

“All the greyhounds I’m sending over there are lacking confidence at the moment, and I’m hoping that the drop in class will see them return to form.”

“There is also a finish on lure at Mount Gambier, which is big enough for all the greyhounds to try to bite onto through their muzzles after the race, and that can sometimes help restore their confidence and allow them rediscover the enjoyment of racing.”

“It may or may not work, but I’ve had success doing this with lesser class greyhounds before, and I may end up sending this lot back there two or three weeks in a row,” Britton said.

Spud Regis won the Adelaide Cup in 2012 and the Australian Cup in 2013 for Andrea Dailly, before recently enduring a brief period of time in Queensland with Tony Brett.
