Champs Drawn Side By Side In Bendigo Cup

Racing enthusiasts are rubbing their hands together in anticipation after Victoria’s three best u-bend greyhounds – Ronan Izmir, Paw Licking and Black Magic Opal – not only won their heats of the Group 2 Bendigo Cup last night, but they drew side by side in Easter Sunday’s final.

Reigning champion and triple country cups winner Ronan Izmir snared the first of the five heats in 23.86sec after he encountered some early hustling, Paw Licking overcame a tardy start before winning his heat in 23.61sec, while Black Magic Opal stole the show with yet another track record recording a time of 23.417sec.

The previous record was 23.420sec held by Grigorieva Bale.

While the three headline acts are sure to dominate betting in the Cup, the performances of the other two heat winners should not be underestimated.

Deadly Vane, made it three wins from as many starts under new trainer Brooke Ennis, won in the sizzling time of 23.52sec, while Matt’s Entity was also impressive when taking out the final heat in 23.65sec.
