SPUD RETURNS

Australian Cup champion, Spud Regis, is set to return to the track tonight at Shepparton after being brought back from retirement.

Trained by Andrea Dailly, Spud Regis has won $440,000 in stakes including two Group 1 and two Group 3’s.

The son of Bombastic Shiraz and Phiona was retired to stud after the Golden Easter Egg series in March but was deemed to be not ready for stud duties because he was too keen to keep racing.

Tonight, he races at Shepparton in preparation for the Manish Gupta and Associates Charted Accountants Shepparton Cup heats, which will be run on Monday 9 September. It will be an intriguing race with Spud Regis in box 8 and recent Warrnambool 390m track-record breaker Ronan Izmir drawn in box 2.

Owner Brian ‘Skinny’ Treloar said that he has been inundated with calls and questions about the whereabouts of Spud Regis and that he is happy that he is back on the track.

“Everyone always asks me when Spud is racing and I’m excited that he’s back racing,” he said “the Dailly’s said he has been working well and I have full confidence that he’ll be ready to go.”

“He’s having a look at the track tonight and will go onto the Shepparton Cup heats next week.”

Ronan Izmir will also go on to the Shepparton Cup heats next week.

Spud Regis has box 8 in race 8 tonight at Shepparton at 9:28pm.
