CUP WIDE OPEN AFTER BOX DRAW

This morning, the box draw for the $500,000 TAB Melbourne Cup was conducted at a special event named the ‘Dog’s Breakfast’ at Sandown Park on RSN’s Breakfast Program.

There were more than 100 people there for the event, where connections or representives for connections, selected a special Melbourne Cup with a box number underneath in the hope of securing a desirable box.

Full box draw below:

Given the box draw, the race is now wide open, as discussed by George Farrugia this morning and evidenced by the TAB Fixed Odds market.

Graeme Bate said that Desalle Bale is drawn in an okay position and that he will be working on her trademark box manners to ensure she comes out flying in Thursday’s final.

Tony Brett was happy with Glen Gallon’s box draw, commenting that “drawing box 1 is worth its weight in gold,” and that he is hoping his greyhound can use the box better than he did in the Topgun at The Meadows.

Hurunui Hitman’s trainer Steve McKenna is relatively pleased with where his greyhound is drawn, saying that he doesn’t think the Geelong Cup winner will lead, although he does think he could potentially position just behind the leader if afforded a clear run into the first turn.
