Hometown heroes Met’s Magic [Ron Ball] and Dashing Corsair [Dwyer Lennon] won the National Sprint and National Distance Championships respectively at Brisbane’s Albion Park racetrack last night.

Victoria’s sole representative in the National Sprint was Allen Hertz [Graeme Bate], who led most of the way before tiring in the home straight and hanging on for third behind Met’s Magic, who wore the 10 rug as the second reserve.

Later in the night, it was an emotional win for Dashing Corsair, the evergreen local who was having his final race start. After leading for much of the journey, the Queenslander had to dig deep to hold off fast finishing Victorian Lady Arko [Darren McDonald] who ran second, with fellow Big V rep Bobby Boucheau [Angela Jackson] running fourth.

The National Grand Finals are both group 1 events and both worth $75,000 to the winner.
