Horsham Cup Goes To Crump

The Troy Iwanyk-trained Crump (8) produced a track-record run of 26.67sec to win the Group 2 Oscar Furniture Horsham Cup (480m) on Saturday night, beating home Jason Thompson’s Innocent Til (5) and Brooke Ennis’ Warrior King (3).

Crump ($3.20F – box eight) has contested an astonishing six Group finals without having success, with tonight’s win the first of his career.

The previous track record of 26.68s was set by Crash way back in 2004, with many experts thinking it would never be broken.

The race saw Innocent Til jump to the early lead, in what would usually be game set and match with reserve Ollie Bale (from box six) pressuring the leader early.

Crump, beginning from box eight was able to get a clear run to muster speed and as the field swept around the home-turn, Ollie Bale had returned to the pack while Crump had joined Innocent Til at the front.

As they entered the long Horsham home straight, it was a one-on-one battle, as the two traded blows on the way to a memorable finish.

In the end, Crump was too strong running over the top of Innocent Til in a brilliant track-record time of 26.67sec.

Crump’s career record now stands at 22 wins and nine placings from 46 career starts, with the $43,750 first-prize taking the son of Superman and Mon Cherie’s career earnings beyond $120,000.
