RACING COMPONENT OF GREYHOUND RACING’S NEW GIPPSLAND CARNIVAL
Greyhound trainers are encouraged to prepare their sprinters and stayers for the start of greyhound racing’s lucrative new 2016/17 Gippsland Carnival, which will run from 18 December until 25 March.
Missing the start of the four-month Carnival, which kicks off at Sale, could hinder your greyhound’s chances of sharing in $35,000 in bonus prize money.
For the first time, greyhound racing’s four country cups held in Victoria’s Gippsland region – the Sale, Warragul, Cranbourne and Traralgon Cups – will be linked.
Each of these cups meetings will incorporate heats and finals of both a sprint and distance series (including the cups), with the best performing greyhounds to earn points towards sharing in bonus prize money to the value of $20,000 (sprint) and $15,000 (distance).
Greyhounds earn points by achieving top four finishes in heats and finals in any of eight specified events (refer to table below), with the Gippsland Carnival’s champion sprinter and champion stayer to be determined on 2017 Traralgon Cup night, 25 March.
