The Bendigo Cup is traditionally held on Easter Sunday as part of the club’s annual Easter Carnival, however starting this financial year it will now be moved to July.
“As a club we feel that our Easter Carnival – which incorporates a number of feature races – is big enough in its own right to continue to draw crowds without the Bendigo Cup, hence the reason the Bendigo Cup is now a separate event altogether presenting the club with another opportunity to hold a major event,” said Troy Harley, Manager of the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association.
“The timing also sits better on the Racing Calendar for a Country Cup as we think in time it will become a stepping stone for up and coming stars to progress into group racing and make a name for themselves.”
