Ray Herbert [Pioneer]
Ray Herbert trained greyhounds from the mid-1920s until the 1960s and was widely acknowledged as the master trainer of his time. Live hare coursing was a huge part of greyhound racing in Ray's era, and among his achievements was a record 10 Waterloo Cups. He trained Byamee, who is widely regarded as the best coursing greyhound of all time. He also trained the great Silver Chief and 1945 Melbourne Cup winner Yarloop. In conjunction with training greyhounds Ray was also a renowned greyhound breeder and studmaster. One of the all time great greyhound trainers.
